What is General Record Schedule?
A records schedule (schedule) constitutes APHIS’s official policy for records and information retention and disposal. The schedule provides mandatory instructions for what to do with records (and nonrecord materials) no longer needed for current Agency business.
What is GRS procurement?
In Fiscal Vear 2013, the GRS Team began a five year project to update and revise the General Records Schedules (GRS) under OMB/NARA M-12-18, Managing Government Records Directive. The old GRS was completely superseded.
What is GRS number?
Each GRS item is associated with two numbers. For example, payroll records are “GRS 2.4, item 040” but also “DAA-GRS-2016-0015-0004.” The first number is composed of the GRS chapter number (X.X), and a 3-digit item number. It identifies where you can find the item in the GRS.
What are examples of temporary records?
Temporary records are officially defined as “… material which can be disposed of in a short period of time as being without value in documenting the functions of an agency.” Financial and payroll records are good examples.
Are network backup tapes temporary records?
Backup/recovery tapes are covered under GRS 3.2, item 050, “Backup files identical to permanent records scheduled for transfer to the National Archives,” or GRS 3.2, item 051, “Backup files identical to temporary records authorized for destruction by a NARA-approved records schedule.”
What are purchasing records?
