Can you start Discerning the Transmundane?
It is one of the Daedric Quests available in the game and can be initiated during the quest Elder Knowledge, in which you retrieve the Elder Scroll from the ancient dwarven city after you talk to the College of Winterhold librarian. Note that you must be level 15 or above to finish the rest of this quest.
Can I do discerning the Transmundane before Elder knowledge?
Not in the least, discerning the transmundane is a stand alone Deadric quest that just happens to be directly parallel to the main quest. The first step in both take you to the same spot only elder knowledge requires an extra step upon arrival.
How do you get past the gate in discerning the Transmundane?
Pull the lever to open the gate to the north. Work your way down the spiraling ramp. When it comes to an end in front of some gold novice door, jump down to the pipe then jump down again to another spiral ramp, battling falmers along the way. Go past the flames trap to the NE and open the door.
Which Elder Scroll do I read at the time wound?
Return to the Throat of the World to read the Elder Scroll at the Time-Wound. You will find the Elder Scroll in the Books section of your menu. For a while, you’ll watch a flashback depicting how the Nord Heroes had banished Alduin from Skyrim. By the end of it, you learn Dragonrend.

- Place the Blank Lexicon on the Lexicon Receptacle.
- Press the second button from the receptacle a few times until the receptacle lights up.
- Press the fourth button from the receptacle until the lenses over the dwarven machine line up.
- Press the fifth button from the receptacle once.
What do you say to wretched abyss?
You may then reply with “I am your servant, my lord.” or “I’ll never join you, vile demon!” If you choose to serve the Wretched Abyss, Hermaeus will not be surprised. The abyss will then respond with “Indeed. Speak with me when the box has been opened, and all shall be revealed.”
Can you get the Elder Scroll early?
Yes you can get the scroll early. I did it three times. Just go to Septimus with level 15+ and do the quest. When you go in the room where the scroll is, you can take it from there.
